How To Choose The Best Anti Aging Skin Care Products

There are so many skin care products on the market that you can get lost in it all. If you’ve never bought skin care products before, then you’re in for a special treat trying to find one you like. Be honest: how many times have you bought cleanser simply because it was on sale? Sometimes the list of benefits can be impossible to resist, and we give in and buy something that kinda stinks. The truth is that, if you want perfect skin, you need to do a little bit more work than simply choosing the product with the best slogan or the prettiest model on the package. So we want to help you do this, and that what is in this article.

Do not assume that the best products are the most expensive products. There’s a lot of social pressure that makes people think that lower end stores have inferior products compared to more expensive stores - not true in all instances. If you wanted to, you can probably can find a truly superior and effective skin care product in your local grocery store.

All you really need to do is check out the ingredients, and you’ll see for yourself. The same ingredients are used because those are the ingredients that work. What is really funny is that your mother and her mother used skin care products that were effective, and many of those products still exist, today. It’s a known fact that it is not necessary to spend on quality skin care products. What are you looking for you skin care product to accomplish? Is Acne a consideration for you? Do you need a solution for your acne? Are you looking for something to even out skin tones without makeup? These are all important considerations that need to be made before you shop. If acne isn’t a problem area for you than you won’t need to look for a product containing acne fighting ingredients. Fighting against acne on the other hand may require something a little stronger than your average facial wash.

If your acne is very bad, then you should see a dermatologist, and if that is not possible then buy a product that has salicylic acid as an active ingredient. If, however, your skin is more sensitive or your acne is very mild, products that contain salicylic acid could really dry out your face and cause other problems.

You can evaluate skin care products in a number of different ways. One thing you will discover on your own is that you can be successful with more than one kind of product. This is because the same product can affect different people in different ways. You will find that if you know what your skin needs, then you will be better able to find it. Then go out and find the products that will do you the most good.

While having blemishes is considered an unfortunate rite of passage for teens, it’s really not funny at all if you’re an adult with the same problems. There is nothing at all wrong with wanting to have facial skin that looks great because it is simply attractive for most people. The important thing to know right now is that you can have all of that. The most important thing to help ensure your success is you need to discover the best products for your skin. You can find a lot of variation among the vast selection of skin care products. What you can expect is to achieve positive results with some, and not so much with other products.

One factor that does come into play is your skin type. So, the question you need to answer is how can you tell which product is best for you. Keep reading to find out.

Avoid being fooled into thinking that a high price for a skin care product means it’s the best one for you. Marketing and advertising are powerful things, and that means that the slick looking packages with high prices at expensive stores are automatically better. If you wanted to, you can probably can find a truly superior and effective skin care product in your local grocery store.

The next step is to set a budget. But this doesn’t mean you have to buy the cheapest product at the store. Thats the last thing we mean to say. You need to set a budget for skin care products for the same reason you set a budget when buying anything. This helps you walk away from those persuasive salespeople who want to sell you something that you can’t necessarily afford. You save yourself time when you set a budget. But following a budget doesn’t have to mean that you buy cheap. On the contrary: the best method for this is to buy the best products your budget can afford!

There are various ways people approach buying skin care products. Taking the time to do some research is the best way to get the best products.

This will allow you to figure out which products are best for your skin. Remember that the expensive products are necessarily the best ones. It’s important to set a budget. You should also speak with a dermatologist. All this work will be worth it in the end. You’ll be happy to have put in so much effort when you have perfect skin.

What is the Best Anti-Aging Skin Care Products for Sensitive Skin

I learned these tips for choosing the right antiaging skin care product the hard way, with trial and error experience! I hope what I've learned can help you to avoid the problems I've run into when trying to find the best anti-aging skin care for sensitive skin.

I've also included some information here on how to find the safest and healthiest anti-aging skin care ingredients.

If you are looking for an antiaging skin care product and you have sensitive skin, you have probably been "around the block" trying different antiaging skin care creams or lotions, and ending up with itching, burning, inflammation or even acne outbreaks!!

This can be really upsetting if you are, like me, getting older and would like to look your best, even with sensitive skin!!

I personally don't believe that there is one antiaging skin care product that can meet all your needs. Rather, I believe that beauty radiates from within, and that by taking good care of your body and your skin, you will look naturally beautiful!

That being said, I am always open to getting a little extra help from mother nature! :-)

Discover What Works for YOUR Skin

Well, I have passed the half a century mark myself, and practically burned my face off once or twice trying the latest and greatest natural antiaging skin care product!

They were supposed to be safe for sensitive skin, but not my skin. Ouch!! :(

Hopefully you won't have to go through what I have to learn about what is the best anti-aging skin care for YOUR sensitive skin.

I encourage you to be cautious, read labels, and TEST every antiaging skin care product FIRST on the inside of your arm or behind your ear.

Then you will avoid looking like a hot tomato after trying something that just didn't work for you! :-)

The Reality of Antiaging Skin Care Products

Alright, first, the bad news!

Many of the ingredients used in anti-aging skin care products are quite irritating to sensitive skin. Some are downright toxic and are restricted in some countries.

Let's take a look at the traditional antiaging skin care product and what some of their ingredients are.

Common AntiAging Skin Care Product Ingredients

Alpha Hydroxy Acids - These are also known as AHAs and are acids derived from fruit and milk enzymes. AHA is an exfoliant and it does work well, if you can handle it! It reduces wrinkles, evens out skin tone and age spots and may decrease enlarged pores.

The bad news about AHA is that it can be very irritating and cause a stinging, itching and burning effect on your skin. This is generally true with the high concentrations found in most anti-aging skin care products.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids also have a side effect of increased sun sensitivity. It is really important if you use AHA to use a good sunscreen with it.

My own experience with AHA is that it worked fine for me when I was younger. Then... I got older!! Apparently skin DOES get more sensitive as we age.

Anyways, I missed the benefits of AHA when I had stop using it, and 'settled' for having more wrinkles! Then recently I noticed that my skin was looking nicer again after I started using a new hypoallergenic toner . I checked the ingredients and was amazed to see that the toner contains a gentle, milk based form of AHA's. It causes no burning, even when I get it in my eyes! I believe that the milk based AHA's are much gentler, especially in a low concentration.

Nowadays many antiaging skin care product formulas contain Beta Hydroxy Acid instead of AHA, which is considered to be less irritating. Some also contain both AHA and BHA.

The only problem with using AHA with BHA is that the Beta Hydroxy acid contains salicylic acid, which is considered a high hazard by safe cosmetics researchers, and is not recommended for use by pregnant women.

People who are sensitive to salicylates should stay away from BHA.

Beta-Hydroxy Acid - As I mentioned, this is also known as BHA and is considered less irritating than AHA. It is used not only in antiaging skin care products but in many acne skin care products. BHA is an exfoliant and improves skin color and texture.

BHA contains Salicylic acid which is considered a high hazard ingredient that is currently banned or restricted in the EU, and is linked to harm to the immune system, cancer, and organ system toxicity.

Salicylic acid builds up in the body and the environment, is linked to endocrine disruption, and according to the National Library of Medicine is a known human immune system toxicant.

Those of us with sensitive skin can minimize our outbreaks and skin eruptions by limiting our exposure to salicylic acid and other salicylates which can cause allergic reactions.

DMAE - also known as Dimethylamenoethanol is a substance present in anchovies, salmon and sardines which boosts production of acetylcholine in the brain, which, according to a number of researchers, reduces age related cognitive decline. Recent studies suggest that DMAE can help in reversing wrinkles and facial sagging.

The only problem with DMAE as an antiaging skin care product is that it is considered a high hazard by safe cosmetics researchers, who have noted that this ingredient is strongly linked to allergies and immune system toxicity, skin irritation, and irritation to the eyes and the lungs. There are some concerns that this ingredient may be contaminated with formaldehyde.

According to the Cosmetic Ingredient Review there is strong evidence that DMAE is a human skin toxicant and according to the National Library of Medicine is a Known human immune system toxicant. It is not safe to be used in aerosols and is restricted in Japan.

Hydroquinone is a skin lightener that is used to reduce age spots by lowering the melanin in your skin. Considered a high hazard by safe cosmetics researchers because it has been linked to cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity, and toxicity to the brain and nervous system.

It is also linked to allergies and toxicity to the immune system and to other organ systems of the body. It causes irritation to the skin, eyes and lungs, and is a known human respiratory toxicant. Hydroquinone is Restricted for use in Canada.

Retinol and Retinyl Palmate - Is a Vitamin A compound which is considered a moderate hazard. Warnings on the labels of Retinol product tell us to avoid vitamin A derivatives if you are pregnant or may become pregnant because they increase the risk of birth defects.

In Canada Retinol is on the list of Prohibited and Restricted Cosmetics Ingredients. Vitamin A and Retinol tend to accumulate in the liver and I recommend you avoid using it if you have sensitive skin.

Argireline - Is considered an "over the counter" alternative to Botox. It reduces depth of facial wrinkles, and is considered by researchers to a moderate hazard because its use is linked to organ and brain toxicity.

I Hope I Didn't Depress You Too Much

OK, I want to tell you the truth here, but I hope all that wasn't too much of a downer! You might by now think that you're doomed to sagging and bagging in your golden years!!

The news isn't all bad though, because there are plenty of MUCH safer and equally effective antiaging skin care product ingredients that you can use.

Although this does not guarantee that your sensitive skin will not have a reaction to the ingredients, you are MUCH less likely to have a bad reaction with anti-aging skin care ingredients that are gentler and safer.

Here is a short list of some of the safer antiaging skin care product ingredients which have been shown by research to be safe and not toxic.

Safer AntiAging Skin Product Ingredients

These first three ingredients are some of the most effective, and also the least allergy producing.

Alpha Lipoic Acid - Restores elasticity to the skin, calms inflammation, reduces dark circles and puffiness under the eyes, decreases fine lines and wrinkles, helps to heal minor scarring, and reduces enlarged pores. Helps restore the skin from the cellular level, promotes tissue cell regeneration and circulation.

Vitamin C - Reduces wrinkles and protects the skin from environmental pollutants. Increase collagen production.

Vitamin E - A well researched, effective antioxidant which improves skin moisture it's ability to protect against environmental toxins. Accelerates wound healing and aids in the functioning of the immune system.

Vitamin E Succinate is safe and has no known side effects, but Vitamin E the form of Tocopherol Acetate it is moderately hazardous, being linked to allergies and immune system problems, reproductive and organ system toxicity. It is also know for lingering in body tissues and the environment for years after exposure. According to the Cosmetic Ingredient Review it is considered a human skin toxicant.

Make sure your antiaging skin care product contains Vitamin E Succinate, and not Tocopherol Acetate! The Hydrovive anti aging skin care products are hypoallergenic and contain all the safe, effective antiaging ingredients without any of the more irritating ones.

These next few anti-aging skin care ingredients can be slightly more irritating to sensitive skin than the above three ingredients, but are safe and may work well for your skin.

Copper Peptide - These enhance wound healing, stimulate production of collagen, promote skin regeneration, and may enhance the action of antioxidants.

Green Tea - contains compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, reduces sun damage, and is safe for those who are not allergic to salicylates which some people are sensitive to.

Collagen promotes skin hydration and firms the skin while minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.

Coenzyme Q10 or Ubiquinone is used to prevent and repair damage done by the sun. Not only does it prevent and repair, it also encourages new cell growth and is a proven antioxidant.

Berries such as blueberries and strawberries contain ellagic acid, and a whole host of antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories which reduce visible signs of aging.

Fruits which contain a high concentration of natural antioxidants can be a VERY powerful and potent healing force for your skin, and yet is non-toxic and actually healthy. The skincare products I use are made from a fruit that actually provides a natural facelift, it's quite amazing!

In addition to using a safer antiaging skin care product, there are a few other things you can do to help your aging skin to remain healthy, vibrant and radiant.

More Safe, Natural Anti Aging Skin Care Tips

Eat Healthy - Eating processed and foods, and excess sugar and salt will definitely age you! People tell me all the time that they can't believe how old I am. I have never been one to obsess about my looks, and have never done a lot of beauty treatments. It is my healthy diet that has made the difference.

Eat lots and lots of fresh veggies and fruits, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and foods that are close to their natural state as possible. Eat organic whenever you can. If you eat meat or dairy products, choose organic as it will be free of hormones that are fed to commercial livestock.

Exercise Your Body - It is very important to move your body regularly, which improves circulation, creates a healthy glow in your skin and also helps all the systems of your body to work more efficiently. Find something you really love and commit to it!

Exercise Your Face - It is absolutely amazing the results you can attain by starting a regular program of facial exercise . This is so much healthier and less expensive than expensive face lifts and cosmetic surgeries. After just a few months I was already seeing results, and also getting less headaches!

I've been doing this now for over a year and the results just keep getting better! Truly this is THE best antiaging skin care product, because it just keeps getting better (and you only need ot buy it once!) You can see my initial results with facial exercise.

Drink Plenty of Pure Water - This is the most overlooked anti-aging natural beauty secret. Water helps your body release toxins and promotes healthy and radiant skin. When you don't get enough water, your whole system becomes sluggish, tired, and toxic. There are whole systems of natural health that have cured many illnesses simply by increasing the amount of pure, clean water that you drink every day!

Don't Smoke - Smoking causes the blood vessels in the top layers of your skin to narrow, and damages collagen and elastin, which results in premature wrinkling and sagging of the skin.

Best Anti-aging Skin Care for Sensitive Skin

I have found it a challenge to find just one skincare line that is both effective for antiaging, and also gentle enough to be hypoallergenic.

Right now I am in the process of testing several product lines, looking for those that are most effective and also gentle.

There is one product line that I like which is the ONLY safe, botanical free hypoallergenic skin care products that I have found, which are remarkably effective, affordable and simple to use.

All other hypoallergenic products I have tried contain ingredients that I can potentially cause skin irritation or other health challenges (please see our safe cosmetics page for more information about this.

These new safe, botanical free hypoallergenic skin care products are made for all skin types.

The simple mixture of cleanser, toner, day and night creams, gentle exfoliation and a facial mask does wonders for my skin. When I wake up in the morning after using the night cream, my skin is moist and radiant.

Even better, these hypoallergenic skin care products are affordable, MUCH more so that so many types of antiaging skin care product which charge and arm and a leg for less than an ounce of product!

I sometimes rotate the skin creams I use, and several times a year I get a jar of MyChelle Supreme Polypeptide Cream which is one antiaging skin care product that I rotate with other creams. I find the Polypeptide cream is a great solution for wrinkles. It does not have the same sun protection benefits as some of my other Day Cream products, so I rotate them, or use them both!

The MyChelle products are all quite safe, although I do not consider them 100% hypoallergenic as they do contain botanicals which can cause allergies for some people. They do have a number of antiaging skin care product choices in their line. I have tried many, and like I said, burned my face a few times!!

I did however find another product that I still use which is great and has worked very well for my sensitive skin, called Notox Anti-Wrinkle Serum which does visibly reduce wrinkles on my face. It is a more expensive antiaging skin care product than I generally like to pay for, but I have to say, it works very well and makes such a difference in my appearance that I am willing to splurge a few times a year to get some!

I also have just discovered another new product that MyChelle produces that is perhaps my favorite antiaging skin care product because it actually gives instant results!

That is quite rare to find in a safe, natural skin care product however I have to say, they've really outdone themselves with this latest formulation which is called MyChelle G2 Instant Firming Serum. It has no added fragrance but has a mild scent from the ingredients, and instantly creates a firmer appearance to the skin. The bottle lasts a long time as you only need a few drops!

How to Find the Best Anti-Aging Skin Care Products for Sensitive Skin

Here are some tips on finding the best anti-aging skin care products for sensitive skin without spending a fortune or tearing your hair out in frustration!

For those of us with sensitive skin, getting older presents some unique challenges. As we age our skin gets drier which makes our skin even more sensitive. We also develop wrinkles, age spots, sagging and other signs of aging.

Well, when looking in the mirror becomes TOO painful, we tend to respond by putting MORE products on our face, and by using a STRONGER antiaging skin care product with more potent ingredients.

Then, you guessed it ... we get the dreaded skin outbreak. Our whole face breaks out in a rash. Or even worse, acne!! :(

As soon as the inflammation goes away, we're on to the next round of anti-aging skin care products, desperate to find a solution ... until the next dreaded rash appears!!

Well, I know it all to well because this used to happen to me!!

I have had a lot of trouble finding a good antiaging skin care product that won't burn my face and WILL make my skin look healthy and beautiful!

Anti-Aging Skin Care Tips for Sensitive Skin

To find the BEST possible anti-aging skin care products for your sensitive skin, you will need to:
  1. Read Product Labels - check the ingredients in all the products you put on your skin. If you'd like more detail on how to choose the LEAST irritating ingredients, please see our Safe Cosmetics Guide.
  2. Avoid Irritating Antiaging Ingredients - Some ingredients used in antiaging products are just too irritating for sensitive skin, like DMAE, Retin-A Hydroquinone and salicylic acid.
  3. Use anti-aging skin care products With FEWER Ingredients - When you have sensitive skin, even one ingredient in a product formulation can cause your skin to break out. For this reason it is best to avoid products that have dozens and dozens of individual ingredients. Instead, choose an anti-aging skin care product with a short list of ingredients.
  4. Limit botanical ingredients - If you have sensitive or hyper sensitive skin, be very careful with botanical, herbal and essential oil ingredients which may cause allergic reactions.
One of the most effective and LEAST irritating options is to use botanical free hypoallergenic skin care products products which will help your skin to look its best WITHOUT causing breakouts.
  5. Another great option if your skin is VERY sensitive is to create your own natural antiaging skin care products with ingredients from your kitchen. This is a fun, simple and very affordable method which really works for sensitive skin because YOU can control or modify the ingredients.
My friend Sue has created a REALLY outstanding collection of homemade antiaging skincare recipes. This is one of the best books I've ever found specifically for anti-aging skincare, with over 130 pages of natural and organic anti-aging skincare recipes for all skin types. Sue's recipes REALLY work as you will see when you watch her video and see how great she looks!

Best Antiaging Skin Care Ingredients for Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin, the best antiaging skin care product ingredients are gentler ones that are relatively non-toxic to the body.

Some of the gentler ingredients which are LESS likely to cause irritation include:
  • Vitamin C is an antioxidant which has healing properties, improves skin tone, and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Vitamin E is an antioxidant also with healing properties which provides skin protection and improves skin texture.
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid is AN Antioxidant, stimulates cell repair and new skin cell growth, provides skin protection, improves fine lines and wrinkles and kin tone, and decreases enlarged pores.
  • Alpha-Hydroxy Acids are also known as AHA and are found naturally in fruits and milk. These are used widely in anti-aging skin care products because they have so many benefits.
These can be used by SOME people with sensitive skin in VERY small amounts and WITHOUT salicylic acid (also known as BHA). Even people with salicylate allergies can use some forms of AHA called Lactic Alpha-Hydroxy Acid, which are made from milk rather than fruit acids.AHA works to exfoliate the skin, to stimulate the repair of skin cells and the production of new skin cells.
They improve skin tone, texture and elasticity, decrease enlarged pores, help reduce acne, increases collagen production, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Retinol is not recommended for pregnant women due to the possibility of Vitamin A overdose. Retinol is an exfoliant which increases the production of collagen, improves fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone and elasticity. It improves acne and decreases enlarged pores.
  • Hyaluronic Acid Improves fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Allantoin is made from comfrey leaf. Stimulates the repair of skin cells, improves skin texture and has healing properties.
  • Copper Peptides Antioxidant properties, provides skin protection, increases collagen, improves skin elasticity, has firming and skin healing properties.
  • Natural, fruit based antioxidants can provide some powerful rejuvenating and antiaging benefits. Depending on your unique skin's sensitivity, you may be able to tolerate a lot or a little of these.
I recently discovered a TRULY amazing natural antiaging skincare product line that gave me facelift results after my very first use! The most active ingredients are a special, patented form of fruit based antioxidants.
You can learn more at my wholesale skin care products page. These are some of the absolute best I've found ... simple, VERY affordable to make, and they really work! You'll see how great Sue looks when you see her video.
Avoid the following antiaging skin care product ingredients, as they are more irritating, and are considered a higher health risk to use on your skin.
  • Retin-A is a high hazard skin care product which shows strong evidence of developmental toxicity and harm to the reproductive system at even low doses. It also builds up in the body years after you use it. I would avoid this even if you don't have sensitive skin!
  • Hydroquinone is used as a skin lightener which is considered a high hazard and is not recommended for people with sensitive skin.
It has been linked to cancer, allergies and immune system toxicity and impairment. There are MUCH safer skin lightening options out there, for example the Xtend Life Whitening Day Cream is both extremely effective, and also safe and paraben free.
  • Salicylic acid or BHA is used as an exfoliant and to help control acne. It is considered a high health hazard, it produces skin irritation and sensory organ changes when applied around the eyes, mouth, or lips.
Another problem with salicylic acid is that it builds up in the body over time, years after you use it, and is a penetration enhancer which allows the ingredients to pass through all the layers of your skin to enter your bloodstream. We have some additional articles on the effect of salicylates and how they can impact your health especially if you have allergies.
  • DMAE is a moderate health hazard which has been linked to allergies and toxicity to the immune system.

My Experience with Anti-Aging Skin Care Products

Well, I noticed that when I passed the 50 year old mark that my skin was starting to look baggy, saggy and that my mouth had a perpetual frown even when I was happy!! :(

I also had some sun damage from times when I wasn't able to properly care for my skin. I had some trouble finding anti-aging skin care products that didn't irritate my sensitive skin.

After a lot of research and trying different approaches and products, here's what has worked for me.
  • Facial Exercise has so far been THE most helpful antiaging skin care that I've done. I tried a lot of different types of facial exercise and some actually made my wrinkles worse.
Eventually I learned that each type of facial exercise builds the face differently, and so you need to choose a program that is created to build the facial muscles gracefully. I am most happy with Carolyn's Facial Fitness program which has done wonders for my face. You can see my initial results here at our non-surgical face lift page.
  • Hypoallergenic Antiaging Skin Care has been very helpful for me in avoiding the redness, inflammation and skin break outs created by most anti-aging products. It was EXTREMELY difficult for me to find hypoallergenic products that contained effective anti-aging ingredients AND also that did not include the kind of harmful or toxic chemicals that cause breakouts. I have found that botanical free hypoallergenic products are the most gentle and yet effective choice ... and they are also quite affordable which is important in today's economy!
They are also very effective and you can read my skin care product review which has more detail. This brand is the ONLY safe, botanical free hypoallergenic product line I have found that contains no toxins, parabens or harmful ingredients.
  • Non-irritating Wrinkle Treatments have also been helpful for me. There are some very useful exercises for literally "rubbing out wrinkles" contained in the Carolyn's Facial Fitness program which has helped me to lighten some of the most noticeable lines on my face. These techniques are contained in her "Full" facial exercise kit.Carolyn recently developed a new line of natural and mostly organic antiaging skin care products that are very safe, toxin free, and they are SUPER effective for sensitive skin. You can read my review here at Carolyn's Facial Fitness Skincare.
